The Sword of Shannara

REVIEW

The Sword of Shannara was a big disappointment. I found the book via a recommendation from a family member who loved it so I dived into the book with excitement. Unfortunately, the characterization was so poor that I didn’t care about the protagonist. Terry Brooks gave me no reason to follow Shea’s life so I found myself wandering along hoping for some empathy (or anything else of redeeming value). I found none. Instead, I found a lot of meaningless fight sequences.

The part of the book I read (I didn’t finish it) goes like this: We’re walking, walking, walking. Wait! It’s time for a fight. O.k. now, we’re walking, walking, walking. Oh no! Time for a fight. Whew! We’re walking, walking, walking.

The Sword of Shannara is a dull, boring, grind, without characters you’ll care about. This one goes on our avoid list.
